The coast of Italy that stretches from Vietri to Sorrento, known as
the Amalfi coast, or Positano coast (from its two most popular towns),
has always been rich in churches known for their decorated domes and
Byzantine mosaics. These domes were built, and decorated, with colourful
tiles, and intricate ceramic patterns.
Soon the techniques and materials used for this type of decoration spread
out. This gave birth to objects, and tiles that were also suitable for
common needs, such as the decoration of private homes, and dinnerware.
This pottery and ceramic tradition, which started centuries ago, is
still carried on today on the coast of Vietri, Amalfi, Sorrento, and
Positano. For the benefit of both locals and tourists alike.
